What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a highly effective cognitive behavioral treatment approach that was developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD, ABPP to support people struggling with dangerous or otherwise unhelpful behaviors. DBT improves emotional and cognitive regulation by teaching people how to recognize dysregulating situations as well as how to choose and use coping skills that will lead to positive outcomes. DBT emphasizes skill development in areas including mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Through individual therapy, group skills training, and coaching, DBT aims to help people build a life worth living.
